Global patent portfolios are managed across fragmented tools and spreadsheets, making it difficult for IP teams to track filings, deadlines, and portfolio risk in one place. This ongoing engagement is building a centralized platform to automate that research and reporting workflow.

Challenge

Fragmented tooling: IP teams track filings, deadlines, and portfolio risk across disconnected spreadsheets and point tools, with no single source of truth.
Inefficient global research: finding, comparing, and monitoring patents across jurisdictions is a manual, time-intensive process.
Complex interfaces: existing tools in the space weren't built for the actual workflows of researchers, analysts, and legal/IP administrators.

My Design Process

I recognized the need for efficient resource deployment on a platform this complex, so I incorporated generative AI tools throughout the design-to-prototype cycle to enable rapid iteration aligned with user needs.

Workflow Design (Flow)

I used AI to model complex user flows. For legal & IP administrators specifically, this surfaced opportunities like automated reminders that reduce time spent on edge cases.

Rapid Prototyping (Creating Screens)

I used generative AI tools such as Google Stitch and Figma Make to create initial wireframes and high-fidelity mockups, enabling faster iteration and validation of tools like the cross-region workbench, the comparison tool, the integrated AI analysis dashboard, and reporting dashboards.

Aesthetic & Design System Foundation (Vibe Coding)

I used AI-assisted coding to generate a design system and boilerplate template code, ensuring a cohesive, professional visual language across the platform and maximizing frontend development speed.

Core System & Technical Capabilities

Intelligent Search & Filtering: advanced search including semantic and keyword search, with filtering by jurisdiction, assignee, inventor, industry classification, and filing status.
Visual Analysis Tools: core analytical components — visual timelines, citation graphs, and structured claim breakdowns — to accelerate prior art analysis and competitive review.
Integrated AI-Powered Assistant: instant summarization and deeper legal or technical exploration, plus patent comparison and translation tools.
Compliance & Portfolio Management: automated workflow features — deadline alerts, status tracking, and weekly email digests — to reduce the risk of missed renewal deadlines and keep teams compliant across the patent lifecycle.

Strategic Impact

The platform is designed to let researchers and scientists streamline data analysis, give business and market analysts actionable market trends, and help legal/IP administrators manage compliance and intellectual property — maximizing efficiency and strategic insight for each persona.

Decision Acceleration: reduces research time and improves decision-making speed and quality by surfacing comprehensive intelligence in a single view.
Risk & Opportunity Identification: enables earlier identification of legal risks and commercial market opportunities.
Workflow Streamlining: streamlines the end-to-end patent process from idea evaluation through prosecution and ongoing portfolio management.
Monetization: a high-margin freemium model designed for rapid adoption, monetizing premium features through Individual/Pro and scalable Corporate/Enterprise licenses.

Reflection

This project reinforced that in complex, data-intensive products, architecture has to take priority over feature volume — early investment in reliable, real-time data infrastructure proved critical, because without a trusted foundation even the most advanced features struggle to deliver meaningful value.

It also underscored that the strongest B2B products are built around reducing high-stakes risk, not just improving convenience. Addressing the risk of missed renewal and maintenance deadlines significantly strengthened the platform's value proposition by solving a problem with direct operational and professional consequences.

Finally, the work showed AI can be a meaningful driver of product velocity when applied intentionally — using it for workflow modeling and rapid prototyping accelerated iteration, improved clarity, and helped bring complex ideas to market faster.
